Oh, and this event isn’t reserved strictly for those that reside in LA and SF – we are open to all cities, so if you know someone you’d like to invite, feel free to extend the invite to other E3 attendees.

GameDevDrinkUp Wrap-up - LA & Bay Area

Hello, fellow GameDevDrinkUp peeps:

If you attended last week’s GameDevDrinkUp, then you know what a great turnout we had. Not only was LA’s 2nd event more successful than the last, but the Bay Area’s 1st event had a mighty turnout as well. Both LA and SF had a combined total of over 150 attendees! We couldn’t have expected a better showing, so thank you all who made it out, and special thanks to Warren Price for spearheading the Bay Area meet-up.

Attendees from both cities represented 55 different companies such as Visceral, Ubisoft, Lucas Arts, Google, Destructoid, Double Fine, Activision, ThatGameCompany, Zynga, Naughty Dog, GolinHarris (Nintendo), and SCEA Santa Monica.

As many of you may have noticed, we put technology to use and placed iPad’s at each event’s check-in stations allowing both parties to communicate via FaceTime. Several of you put your creative juices to work and began scribbling down messages in reverse to chat – how clever!

Thanks in part to Andrew Odella (Naughty Dog), Matthew Cappiello (SCEA Santa Monica) and Annie Lohr (Microsoft) we were able to raffle out prizes that included games, T-shirts and point cards. Big thanks to all of you!

We are in the works for our next GameDevDrinkUp which will take place during The E3 Expo. That’s right. We’ll be bringing both groups together at one central location during the biggest industry event of the year. More details to come soon, so stay tuned.

**July GameDevDrinkUp will resume post-The E3 Expo

Cheers,

GameDevDrinkUp - Los Angeles and The New Bay Area Chapter

The feedback was great and many of you said you’re looking forward to the next meet-up. So, to continue the momentum, it’s time to announce our next GameDevDrinkUp location: McCabe’s Bar & Grill in Santa Monica. We’ll have happy hour extended till 9 p.m. (must wear name badge to take advantage of this offer) with last food-call going till 8:45 p.m. Come hungry and thirsty, and don’t forget your biz cards as there will be more giveaways!

Oh, we are happy to report that due to the success of our first meet-up, we’ve expanded to now include San Francisco. That’s right, industry folks in SF will have the opportunity to meet gaming cohorts at the same time/day each month. As we all know, SF is home to a host of gaming media, developers, producers, etc. While this city is just one meet-up behind us, there’s no doubt they’ll experience the same success we have right here in LA.

Bay Area

Where: Jillian’s 101 4th St # 170 San Francisco, CA 94103 (http://sanfrancisco.jilliansbilliards.com)

Thank you everyone who came out last week for the first GameDevDrinkUp!  It was a huge success with over 60 people representing 11 different companies in the industry including Sony Santa Monica, Square-Enix, Respawn Entertainment and Naughty Dog.

I think we've outgrown Barney's Beanery, so the next location is still TBD. I'll be sharing an update with all of you shortly for the May 12th event, so stay tuned.

Again, thanks for coming out and making it a huge success.  In the meantime, help keep GameDevDrinkUp alive by spreading the word and check out all the photos from last week right here: http://bit.ly/fn50qa

Props to Max Ancar and Kelli Blair for taking charge of the sign-in station!

GameDevDrinkUp #1

Tired of waiting for GDC, E3 and PAX to come around before industry discussions take place over tasty libations? Well, I'm here to put an end to these few and far between gatherings by creating one of my own - Game Dev Drink-Up - a monthly meet-up taking place at new watering holes across the Westside.

Many gaming studios reside on the Westside, but it's not often we get together offline or away from the mega-conventions to talk... casually about the day-to-day happenings in the industry.

When: Thursday, April 14th at 8 to ~11 p.m. (will occur second Thursday of each month)
Where:
Barney's Beanery, 1351 Third St. Promenade, Santa Monica 90403

UPDATE: Mezzanine Reserved

Come by for reunions with friends, good convo, networking and drinks.

Be on the lookout for invites sent to your inbox each month, and follow the group on Twitter to join the discussion and get to know your industry folks: @GameDevDrinkUp
